Blog - A Palette of Ideas - on being an artist

I am teaching a Workshop in Acrylic Landscape for 2 Saturdays in Sept. (Saturday Sept 14th and 21st) through the South Delta Artists' Guild in the workroom at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen BC. (1710 56th street across from McDonalds). The level is for anyone with a basic understanding of colour mixing, composition, value and design up to a curious intermediate. Each participant will plan piece from their chosen reference photo creating a well composed thumbnail. You will follow the process through to finish a piece by the end of the second Saturday and using your own time during the week in between to work along farther if needed. I will be providing examples of my work and methods, to show how I achieve my pieces, but my aim will be to meet you where you are. I hope to encourage and inspire you to put your own marks down, to create work that leaves you with the confidence to grow in your painting, and a desire to make more art. Focus will be on composition, colour and value to communicate the image clearly to others. Light source and shadow, depth and form - there's lots to explore and each of you will likely want to gain understanding in different, as well as similar areas. Please join us, we are already filling spots with registrants and space is limited. Registration is $150.00 for SDAG members and 187.50 for non members. All prices are CAD. To register please sign up on the South Delta Artists' Website at -   southdeltaartistsguild.com Any questions? Please don't hesitate to contact the SDAG through their website or you may contact me specifically through this website.

Some of you may have seen my demo at Gallery 1710 in the spring and some asked if I ever teach. For those of you who attended the SDAG Interactive Demo Day in March of 2019 and saw my acrylic landscape demonstration, the painting I did that day  (with a few finishing touches added at home) is pictured here below the hand bill image. The painting has since been selected for the month of July in the MacDonald Realty 2020 provincial calendar.

I look forward to seeing you in Sept. if you'd like to brush up on your acrylic painting.
