Monica Burrow

Born in Vancouver, I grew up following my parents around in their VW bus throughout the local mountains, BC, Alaska, the Yukon and the Pacific Northwest looking at the subtleties of, and the variety in the natural landscape. Any chance they could get to be outside and outside human settlements, they took. The house I lived in was in the midst of a garden of plants from all over the world accumulated by my grandfather. I have always been keenly aware of the cycle of the seasons.
From my early years, art supplies stimulated my imagination. Whether combining the colours on and off paper or canvas, using fabric or fibre, the smell and touch of the various ways to hold colour in my hand has been a life long fascination for my senses.
I love painting in acrylics. The outdoors is an endless source of inspiration. I am drawn to the play of light over the land, the endless formations of clouds and weather systems, and rich colour, either actual or imagined, attracts me to painting a subject.    As I have read more and become more aware of the various human impacts on the environment, I am more and more perplexed by, and in awe of humanity’s fragile existence.
I have been making fine art for 25 years. My education began with a BHe at UBC and my best loved courses were those involving creativity and design. Mostly self taught, I have taken several workshops over the last 24 years. In the early 90’s I owned a folk art business but soon I was creating fine art as my work developed. I am a member of the South Delta Artists’ Guild.  I currently show in several galleries in southwestern BC. I have lived in Vancouver, Whistler & Toronto and now divide my time between Galiano Island and Delta.
